Introducing Sassy’s Book Club!

Something you probably don’t know about me: I was an English major. This is because growing up I loved reading and thought that when I grew up I would be a writer. That’s mainly because my parents were both literature enthusiasts. We grew up with a lot of books in the house and one of the family childhood stories about me is that I used to sit and read the Encyclopedia Britannica before I could even read just because I liked the feel of paper.

In short, literature is in my DNA. And my day job doesn’t include it at all surprisingly, so I try as much as possible to read on my own. One thing I’ve found lately is that I’ve been taking more and more book recommendations from book lists like Oprah and The Skimm and while yes, they’re good, none have made me go, “OMG this is amazing. I need to tell all my friends to read this.”

I’m hoping by bringing together an amazing group of sassy women and men we can curate a great list of reads that we can highly recommend to the group to read and then have awesome discussions about them in our group chat on Good Reads.

Here’s how it will work:

  1. We will read 1 book over a 2-month period. Why not a shorter time frame? Well, most of us have a lot going on with jobs, kids, and general life stuff! So let’s give ourselves enough time to finish the book properly.
  2. At the end of the 2 month period (or earlier if you want), you can go into the Good Reads group and put in your thoughts, feelings, and questions. If you do put in your comments early, make sure to write SPOILER before your review so people know not to read it if they haven’t finished the book.
  3. Once we’ve read the first book, I will send out a survey to all our members to get suggestions for our next two-month read! This should be a book you’ve read before that you highly recommend and might not be widely read or known about (or it could be and you just want to scream it from the rooftops along with Reese Witherspoon!).

If you are interested in joining, click here to be taken to the Sassy Confetti Book Club group page on You will need to be a member of the group to make comments in the discussion feed. Additionally, you will need to join Good Reads to be a member at all! It’s one of my favorite places to keep track of all the books I’ve read and I especially love making challenges for myself throughout the year.

Our first book is going to be a book I read a few months ago and was recommended to me after I lamented the fact that every book I had read lately just wasn’t that great, which was disappointing since they had all been recommended by an official Reading List. The book she recommended was We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Fowler and I sped through it in two weeks. It’s really well done, keeps you guessing the whole time and then spits you back out at the end wondering what just happened to you. It’s a gorgeous read and I am really excited to now recommend it to all of you!

So let’s get READING!
